The sum of two numbers is 33. Twice the first number minus the second number equals 18. Find both numbers

Need to find both numbers. I don't get it.

let x = one number

 

y = second number

 

 

x + y =33

 

2x - y = 18 (twice first minus the second equals 18)

 

now add the two equations

 

3x = 51

 

x = 17

 

y = 33 -x

 

y = 16
