Writing quadratic functions

How would I write the quadratic function whose maximum value is 5 when x=2 and whose parabola passes through (1,12)?

Hi Margo, a quadratic function with a maximum of (2, 5), would be a parabola that is opening down. The point (1, 12) could not be in the parabola. If you mean a function with a vertex at (2, 5) and passes through the point (1, 12), you would have a parabola of the form x = a(y - k)^2 + h having a vertical axis of symmetry. Do you have a maximum or a vertex?
