The balanced chemical reaction is:
HNO3 + KOH → KNO3 + H2O
1) Calculate moles of HNO3 using its molarity and volume.
mol HNO3 = 0.860 mol/L x 40.0 mL x 1 L/1000 mL = 0.0344 mol HNO3
2) Convert mol HNO3 to mol KOH using the mole ratio from the balanced reaction, which is 1:1.
mol KOH = 0.0344 mol HNO3 x 1 mol KOH / 1 mol HNO3 = 0.0344 mol KOH
3) Calculate volume of KOH using moles KOH and Molarity (0.570 M)
VKOH = 0.0344 mol KOH x (1 L / 0.570 mol) x (1000 mL / 1 L) = 60.4 mL
