The number of cookies each gets at the start is 96 / x
After two leave the number each gets is 96 / (x - 2)
The second number is 4 more than the first. So
96 / (x - 2) = (96 / x) + 4

I tried to solve for x and I didn't get a whole number. The steps you describe that is how I started the problem but somewhere after that something went wrong.02/28/19
