Everything connects into a great story!
One big difference is in their readiness to apply military force. That might seem slightly ironic, considering Louis Napoleon's uncle, but of course he had different interests, arguably focusing more on politics, overseas colonies, and culture. It seems to me that, In terms of managing appearances, Louis exploited plebiscites to unite the French by recalling the republican, revolutionary heritage, while Bismark went with Prussian military strength to unite Germans.
