nan had 7 jacks. then she bought some packs with 6 jacks in each pack. nan now has 55 jacks. how many packs did she buy?

Let n = the number of packs that Nan bought.  One pack contains 6 jacks, so n packs will have 6n jacks.  Since Nan already had 7 jacks, the equation is:
 
7 + 6n = 55
 
Subtract 7 from both sides:
 
6n = 48
 
Can you finish it from here?
