Word similar to demagogue with Greek origins

I read an article several years ago that defined a word as "a person who is elected not because they will bring about needed reform, but because they represent something that the public wants to show. Some form of poster child." I think the word was Greek but not demagogue.

Hi Dave! I can't seem to find one with a greek origin, but you're thinking of a figure head, a cipher, or a titular head! A demogogue is one who gets support by appealing to the peoples feelings, rather than using a rational argument!
