Hannah, if they vary directly, then the relationship goes in the same direction.  Twice of one is twice of the other.  Varying inversely would be twice of one is half the other.  Make sense sorta?

 

If the force is twice the distance, then f = 2d.  You may think it's d = 2f, but plug in the numbers. 6 = 2(3).
