Kim and her little brother are picking strawberries. Actually, Kim picks the strawberries and her brother eats them out of the pail. If Kim could fill the pail in 16 minutes without her brother’s intervention, and he can eat all the berries in 32 minutes, how long does it take Kim to fill the pail?

So in 16 minutes, she would have filled the pail but he would have eaten half of the pail. So the overall result is that after 16 minutes, she's got 1/2 a pail. So if she does it for another 16 minutes, she gets the other 1/2 of a pail. 

So in all, it should take her 32 minutes.

 

If you think about itr, this makes sense......in 32 minutes, she collects 2 pails but he eats one of them, leaving one pail to take home.
