                                             I wanted about how many minutes are in 9 hours and 12 minutes.

9 hours + 12 minutes = ______ minutes

2. Then write down the outside info you need

60 minutes = 1 hour

3. Multiply the hour by minutes per hour to convert the hours into minutes

9 hours x 60 minutes/hour + 12 minutes

The hours cancel out, leaving that term in minutes ( 9 x 60 minutes = 540 minutes)

4. Now you have 540 minutes + 12 minutes = 552 minutes

There are 60min/hr. Thus 9hr * 60min/hr will yield the number of min in 9 hours. Then you just need to add the 12 extra minutes.
