Keith, discrete data is counted and continuous data is measured. Discrete data takes only whole numbers, like the number of people in the room. Continuous data can be in parts, like a tree is 5 1/2 feet tall. While feet and inches are usually both whole numbers, inches are part of feet.
I would say #1 is the only continuous variable. 5 looks either/or, but you can't have a fraction of a calorie.
