Passionate about writing, history, and exploring cultures—let’s learn
European explorers faced many challenges during the early 15th and 17th centuries. For one thing, they had limited knowledge of the geography of the world and did not have access to the best navigational tools. They also risked landing in a place with limited resources and food. They risked starving and succumbing to disease. Another aspect was that on their ships they only could take a limited number of supplies with them. Many explorers also risked coming into contact with Natives, who were not too keen on having people come and take over their land. The explorers that were sent by the monarchies of their countries risked running into pirates off the coast of the Caribbean. Since the primary purpose of European exploration in the Americans was a business advantage, many risked coming back to Europe with nothing.
