Math word question help a fellow student

Question

In 2000, the population of a state was approximately 610 thousand. If the population decreased by 0.6% between 2000 and 2013, find the population of the state in 2013.

-The population was approximately_______ thousand in 2013 (round to the nearest integer as needed)

P.s i know that i have to convert to decimal 0.006 × 610= 3.66 then 610 minus 3.66 = 606.34 rounded = 606 but i keep getting it wrong. Am i doing something incorrectly?

610,000 x (.006) = 3660

610000 - 3660 = 606340 = 606,000
