Question

The beatles sold 9 more number one albums than Elvis Presley. Together they sold a total of 29 number one albums. How many number one albums did each sell?

Answer 1

x = number of #1 albums that Elvis had

 

x + 9 = number of #1 albuns that the beatles had

 

x + (x+9) = 29

 

2x + 9 = 29

 

2x = 20

 

x = 10

 

So Elvis had 10

 

and the beatles had 19
