Let y = the cost of a pair of pants

8x + 5y = 695

3x + 3y = 300 Divide both sides of this equation by 3.

x + y = 100

y = 100 - x

8x + 5(100 - x) = 695

8x + 500 - 5x = 695

3x = 195

x = $65

y = 100 - 65

y = $35
