Question

Mike paid $59.00 for a bike. He paid with FOUR bills. What were the bills? Tell me the denomination of each bill and how many were used. Make sure to explain to me how you know this and how it totals $59.00. Any help I would appreciate it.

You can't solve this with ones, because that would require 4 ones, and you can only have a total of 4 bills.

You can't solve this with a 50, because then you'd need those 4 ones, or, you'd need a ten, or you'd need two 5"s. None of those meet the requirement of 4 bills.
