there are different things you can do now...
you can cross multiply
4(x+1)=8x
4x+4=8x
4x-4x+4=8x-4x
4=4x
x=4/4
x=1
(1+1)/8=1/4
2/8=1/4
1/4=1/4
you can multiply x and 4 both by 2 to get 2x/8
now both denominators are equal so both numerators must be equal
x+1=2x
x-x+1=2x-x
1=x
