So, let's say your parents give you $10 a week for allowance.
So, let's say that last week you spent $3/day for smoothies everyday after school (Mon - Fri). Then, on Friday they paid you your allowance again. So, you could say that last week your expenses were:
(-3)(5) + 10 = -15 + 10 = -5 dollars.
So you spent 5 dollars more than you took in.
