Substitute L = 3W in the perimeter equation, you get

 

56 = 2(3W + W)

 

56 = 2(4W)

 

56 = 8W

 

W = 56 / 8 = 7 cm

 

L = 3W = 3 x 7 cm = 21 cm

 

Area, A = L x W

 

            = 21 cm x 7 cm = 147 cm²
