How can 17 gallons of water be obtained, to take home?

There are two unmarked buckets by a stream. The bucket hold 22 and 9 gallons of water, respectively. How can 17 gallons of water be obtained, to take home?

To bring something with you you're able to store 17 gal of the water from that stream. After you know you've retained the 17 gal of water that you showed up for, make sure keep a lid on it for the trip back home...

Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. Both answers are correct. What comes to mind is that when you make a mark, that might throw off the accuracy of the amount of water a little bit depending on the thickness of the mark and if the mark is inside or outside the bucket. But then again, no measurement is exact. Have a good day.
