The dosage of an orally administered drug is usually less than an iv administration. The onset of action is usually quicker by iv than oral. And the effect on the infection is the same by either route of administration. If by effect on the body you refer to side effects, the side effects would generally, but not always,

be greater after oral administration. However this is not a generalization.

In general, an orally administered dose will have a slower onset of activity than an iv dose due to the necessity of passing through the stomach while being absorbed eventually into the blood stream.  

A po dose will consequently be a bit slower to have an effect on the infection.

Likewise, it's effects upon the body will be slower and possible less intense in terms of possible side effects.
