Question

A roof has a 0.5 inch layer of ice on it from a previous storm. Another ice storm begins to deposit ice on the roof at a rate of 0.25 inches per hour
find a formula for a linear function f that models the thickness of the ice x hours after the second storm started

how long does it take for the layer of ice to become 2.3 inches

f(x) = 0.25x + 0.5

 

with f(x) in inches, x in inches per hour.  For the second question, set

 

f(x) = 2.3

 

and solve for x.

 

2.3 =  0.25x + 0.5
