Your meals cost a total of $35.00 per day for the 2 days that you are in town. You also decide to leave a tip for the waiter of 20% of your meal bill. Your company reimburses you 75% of your travel expenses and 50% of meals and hotel expenses. On the last day of the trip, you decide to purchase an Apple iPod as a gift for your child and an iPad Tablet for yourself which costs $ 589.00. The iPad costs $589.95 and the iPod costs $ 265.95 plus sales tax of 9.25%.

You didn't state what the problem is you're trying to solve, so I'm guessing you're trying to figure out what your out-of-pocket expenses were for the trip.

 

Gas Costs = (1780 miles/15 mpg)*(2)*($4.35 per gallon)

 

Hotel Costs = ($95 per night)*(2 nights)*(1.12)            [1.12 is cost plus tax]

 

Meal Costs = ($35 per day)*(2 days)*(1.20)                [1.20 is cost + tip]

 

Personal Costs = ($589.95 + $265.95)*(1.0925)          [1.0925 is cost plus tax]

 

Your Total Expenses = Gas Costs + Hotel Costs + Meal Costs + Personal Costs

 

Your company reimburses 75% of your travel expenses and 50% of hotel and meals:

 

Reimbursements = (0.75)*(Gas Costs) + (0.50)*(Hotel Costs + Meal Costs)

 

Out-of-Pocket Costs = (Your Total Expenses) - (Reimbursements)
