If they work together, their rate is (1/4)t.
Let X be the associate's rate.
(1/6)t + Xt = (1/4)t
(1/6) + X = 1/4
multiply the equation by 12:
2 + 12X = 3
12X = 1
Therefore X = 1/12
Thus, the associate can complete the route by herself in 12 hours.
