You need to follow the rule of Order of Operations. The order you must take to complete a problem is parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. So in your problem above, you must multiply the two numbers first and then add the to the total. So 2*10=20, then 5+20=25. So the answer is 25.
A good way to help remember the Order of Operations is "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally".
"Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction."
