The sum of three numbers is 93. The first number is 7 more than the second. The third number is 2 times the first. What are the numbers?

Let F = First #, S = 2nd and T = 3rd

F = S + 7

T = 2F = 2S + 14

S+7 + S + 2S + 14 = 93

Collect terms and subtract 14 from each side

4S = 72 => S = 18

F = S + 7 = 25

and T = 2F = 50

 

You shold now check that these numbers do, in fact, ad up to 93.
