Ben carries a 200N suitcase up here flights of stairs (a height of 10m) and then pushes it with a horizontal force of 50N at a constant force of 0.5M/s for a horizontal distance of 35m. How much work does Ben do on his suit case during this entire motion.

Assuming the TOTAL height is 10.0 m,
Work done rising 10 m is
W1 = (200 N)(10.0 m) = 2000 J
Work done moving horizontally is
W2 = (50.0 N)(35.0 m) = 1750 J
Total work done is
W1 + W2
Note the answer does not depend on the speed, since the problem did not ask for the rate of doing work (i.e. power).
