Let me help you pave YOUR way to that A!
Attack each expression individually, then isolate and solve for x:
Step 1
Multiply the coefficient, "3", by each term in the parentheses next to it
3(x+1) = (3*x + 3*1) = 3x + 3
Step 2
Multiply the coefficient, "2", by each term in the parentheses next to it
2(3x+3) = (2*3x +2*3) = 6x + 12
Step 3
Add both the resulting binomials
3x + 3 + 6x + 12 = 9x + 15
Step 4
Set this equal to what's on the other side of the "="
9x + 15 = 45
Step 5
To isolate "x", subtract 15 from both sides of the equation
9x + 15 - 15 = 45 -15
9x = 30
Step 6
Divide both sides of the equation by the coefficient of x, which, in this case, is 9.
x = 30/9 = 3 3/9 = 3 1/3 = 3.33333...
