Thank you for the reply Prof. J.R.S. !

I have a question:
  • I understand to convert  25 mg/ml x 1000 ug/mg = 25,000 ug/ml Stock solution, but why ug/mg did you mean ug/ml instead?
  • I understand to add 10 microliters from the stock to 45ml. As this is a very small amount. Usually would you add 10microliters to 44,990 microliters  to make up the new solution ?
  • Can you use the V1C1=V2C2 formula :
V1: unknown
C1: 25mg/ml
V2: total volume 45ml
C2: new concentration required 250microgram/45ml

V1=45ml x 250ug/45ml
          25,000ug/ml
(45ml cancel out and ug cancel out so you are left with ml)
V1=0.01 ml

Is this also a way to get to the answer ?

Lilly,
  • I used ug/mg as the conversion factor, i.e. 1000 ug/mg. So, when you multiply 25mg/ml x 1000 ug/mg, the mg cancel and you’re left with ug/ml.
  • Usually you would just add 10 ul to 45 ml.
  • Yes, you certainly may use V1C1 = V2C2 as long as you keep all units consistent
