Leila , Chris, and Kevin sent a total of 130 text messages over their cell phones during the weekend. Kevin sent 3 times as many messages as Chris. Chris sent 5 fewer messages than Leila. How many messages did they send?

l + c + k = 130

k = 3c

c = l - 5

 

k = 3(l - 5)

k = 3l - 15

 

l + 3l - 15 + l - 5 = 130

5l = 150

l = 30

 

c = 30 - 5

c = 25

 

k = 3(25)

k = 75
