The perimeter of a cross section of a batten of a lumber is 8 in the length is 1 in longer than the width . Find the actual dimensions of the cross section of the batten

First of all you obviously need help with English grammar in addition to math help: a sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a period.  You expect precise answers to your question.  As a tutor I expect precise questions!

 

I think what your problem suggests is this:

let L = length of the batten and W = width.

 

L=W+1

2(L + W) = 8

W + 1 + W = 4

2W = 3
