t = 3(2/3)*d

Where d = 3 mi.

t = 3(2/3)*(3 [mi.])

Denominator and 3 mi. cancel out, and simplify as follows:

t = 3(2/3)*(3 [mi.]) = 3(2) [Mi.] = 6 miles
