The local pet rescue has 32 pets waiting to be adopted. They are all dogs or birds. Steve was bored one day while his mom was volunteering, so he counted up all the legs and counted 104 legs total! How many of each animal are there?

4d + 2b = 104

 

d = 32 - b

 

4(32 - b) + 2b = 104

 

Solve for b, then subtract your answer from 32 to find d.
