       C = ∏d        Because ∏= C/d   [definition of Pi]       where C=circumference and d = diameter

 

If C=3.14 inches and we use the approximation of 3.14 for Pi, that means:

         3.14 in = 3.14*d 

      and

         1 in = d

 

So, if you have a row of 10 quarters in a straight line, that is 10 inches.   [note: Someday you may not have a ruler but you have quarters.]
