3s + 5c = 70             Equation 1

12s + 12c = 216       Equation 2

 

Multiply equation 1 by -4 and add to eliminate s

 

-12s - 20c = -280

 12s + 12c = 216

       -8c = -64

        c = 8

 

Childs tickets cost $8

 

Plug 8 in place of c in either equation 1 or equation 2 and solve for s to find
