It is especially clear with a Venn diagram, but I cannot draw that here. Still, if you could, the left circle would have a total of 55 English speakers. The right circle would have 60 total Hindi speaker. The wedge representing overlap is 15. Now then:
The 15 includes English speakers, which means that of the 55 English speakers we named, 15 are NOT in the "English only" segment and 40 are.
Likewise, for the Hindi circle, we have 60 total but 15 in the shared wedge, leaving 45 in the "Hindi only" wedge. If you ever worry you made a mistake, add the individual segments:
40 + 15 + 45 = 100, as expected. Yes! It checks out!

My pleasure! You don't have to draw a Venn diagram to solve it, but I hope you did; I find most students are visual thinkers and find math far clearer with a picture.
