what is the speed of the wind?

With the wind, a plane can fly 1615 miles in 3.5 hours. Against the same wind, the trip takes 4
hours. If the airspeed of the plane is 444 mph, what is the speed of the wind?

Your numbers don't match up when this problem is worked.
Can you check the post for errors?

Using distance =rate*time
with rate of 444+w with the wind and 444-w against the wind,
I get a windspeed of 29.6 mph when I set

3.5(444+w) = 4(444-w)

but this gives a distance in either case of  1657.6 miles
instead of 1615 miles.
**********************************
when I look at the two separate equations of:
1615 = 3.5(444+w)
1615 = 4(444-w)
I should be able to solve either for w and get the same
answer, but they don't come out equal.
