A light aircraft travels 6 miles per hour less than twice the speed of a bus. If the bus can travel 186 miles in the same time it takes the aircraft to travel 354 miles, then what is the average speed of each?

Let B = he speed of the bus, then (2B-6) is the speed of the airplane

Let T= the time of travel for each

The BT=186 and (2B-6)T=354

Therefore 186/B = 354/(2B-6)

Cross multiply and collect terms => 372B-1116 = 354B => 18B=1118

B=62 and airplane speed 118
