The start up division made 80% of 1/2 of the established division. The start up divisions growth was 1/3 greater than the established divisions. if the divisions made $280,000 combined, how much did the start up division make?

Charles M.

Start Up (s) = (.5 * .8) * established (e) therefore S = .4(e)
Since s+e=280,000, e+.4e = 280,000
Simplifying produces 1.4e=280,000
Division by 1.4 produces e=200,000
Since s+e = 280,000 we now can say s+200,000=280,000
Subtract 200,000 on both sides and s = 80,000

e=200,000 ; s=80,000
