875 tickets were sold for a game for a total of $1,100.00. If adult tickets sold for $1.50 and children's tickets sold for $1.00, how many of each kind of tickets were sold?

X + Y = 857

 

1.50 X + 1.00 Y = 1100

 

 

X + Y = 875 ---> Y = 875 - X  

15X + 10Y = 11000 <--- multiplies everything by 10 to clear away the decimals

 

 

15X + 10( 875 - x ) = 11000

 

15X + 8750 - 10x = 11000

 

5x + 8750 = 11000

 

5x = 11k - 8750

 

5x = 2250

 

x = 2250/5

 

x = 450

 

y = 425

 

450 ( 1.50 ) + 425 (1.00) = 675 + 425 = 1100
