If you have 2,000,000 pieces of paper and all of them are blank except one piece which has your name on it.
Put them all in a rotating bin. You reach in the bin and pick out one piece of paper. If you pick the piece with your name on it, you win a prize. The probability of picking the piece of paper with your name on it is 1/2,000,000.
The probability of an event occurring is : (the number of ways the event can occur)/(the total number of equally likely outcomes)=1/2,000,000
1/2,000,000=0.0000005 whereas 1/1,000,000=0.000001
0.0000005<0.000001
Another example...
There is a game where you have to choose a 7-digit number with all the digits in the exact order as the 7-digit number in the game. How many 7-digit numbers are there with preceding 0's allowed ?
There are 10,000,000 of them.
The probability of you picking the correct 7-digit number is 1/10,000,000=0.0000001 which is less than 0.000001
The numbers are:
0000000
0000001
0000002
0000003
