 Bill is five years older than twice his brother Albert. Six year ago the sum of their ages was fifty-four.

  Bill:  2X + 5

 

  6 years ago:

    (X-6) + (2x + 5 - 6) = 54

 

    (x - 6) + (2x - 1 ) = 54

    3x - 7 = 54

 

   3x = 61

 

    x = 61/3 = 20 and 1/3

 

   Bill is 2 ( 61/3) + 5 = 122/3 + 5 = 122 /3 + 15/3 = 137/3 = 45 and 2/3

 

   6 years ago:

 

    14 and 1/3 + 39 and 2/3 = 54

 

So Albert is 20 years and 4 months.

    Bill is 45 and 8 months
