The perimeter of a rectangle is seventy inches. The length is your less than twice the width.

   Length L = 2w-4

 

  Perimeter P = 70 = (2w-4) + (2w-4) + w + w  <--- adds up all the sides

 

                            = 6w - 8

 

 

   So 70 = 6w - 8

       78 = 6w

        w = 78/6 = 13

 

 width is 13, length is 2(13) - 4 = 26 - 4 = 22

 

 rectangle is 22 by 13
