v(t) = v₀ + at

 

If up is positive and down is negative,

 

v₀ = 20 m/s

a = -10 m/s²

 

v(t) = 20 - 10t,

 

t in seconds, v in m/s

 

v(1) = [20 - 10(1)] m/s = 10 m/s

 

Positive v means upward direction.

 

v(3) = [20 - 10(3)] m/s = -10 m/s

 

Negative v means downward direction.
