In An Afterschool club there are 3 times more boys than girls. there are 44 pupils in total Find out how many boys there are and how many girls there are.

no. of girls = x

so no. of boys = 3x

 

x+3x = 44

4x = 44

x = 11

 

no. of girls = x = 11
so no. of boys = 3x = 3(11)=44

Answer 2

there are 3 times more boys than girls:

b = 3g

 

there are 44 pupils in total:

b + g = 44

 

Since b = 3g, substitute into b+g = 44

 

3g + g = 44

4g = 44

g = 11 girls

3g = 33 boys
