To do 2/3 divided by 8, we need to think of dividing fractions because 8 as a fraction is 8/1

 

So 2/3 divided by 8 = 2/3 divided by 8/1

 

When we divide fractions, we keep the first one as is, flip the second one, and multiply (instead of divide)

 

2/3 divided by 8/1 = 2/3 times 1/8 = 2/24 = 1/12

 

Each hiker will get 1/12 of a gallon of water
