Sue scored a total of 35 points in two games. She scored 6 times as many points in the second game as in the first. How many more points did she score in the second game?

Let x be the number of points Sue scored in the second game. The points in the second game were six times as many as she scored in the first game.  So, in terms of x, Sue scored (x/6) in the first game.  Sue scored a total of 35 points.  So x = (x/ 6) = 35.  Find x.

 

x + x/g = 35

 

x (1 + (1/6)) = 35

 

x (6/6 + 1/6) = 35

 

x (7/6) = 35

 

x = (35)(6) / (7) = 5(6) = 30

 

BTW, she scored 30/6 = 5 points in the first giving her a total of 35 points.
