Six boys are in a race. Earl is 18 yards ahead of Al. Chuck is 12 yards behind Earl. Bill is 8 yards ahead of Chuck. Don is 8 yards ahead of Earl and Frank is 17 yards ahead of Chuck. Don is leading Frank by how many yards?

e= 12 +c, b=8+c, d=8+e, f=17+c, d=x+f? what is x?

e = 4+b, f=5+e, e=d-8, 8+e = x+f = 17+c+x =8+12+c

x = 20-17=3

x = 3

Don' leads Frank by 3 yards. could be a photo finish horse race, winner winning by a nose's hair, especially if Frank has a 9 foot long nose hair
