100 students entered college. 

55 of them chose sports.

44 of them chose music.

20 of them chose both.

How many of them chose neither sports nor music?

labelled sports and music

 

in the overlap area we have 20

So in sports alone we have 55-20 = 35

and in music alone we have 44-20 = 24

 

Total is 100

 

100 -  (20+35+24) = 100 - 79 = 21
