Find the degree measure, to the nearest tenth, of the central angle whose intercepted are measures 14in in a circle of radius 12in.

The length of an arc is:

 

s = θr

• s = arc length = 14 in.
• θ = central angle in radians
• r = radius = 12 in.

 

s = θr

14 = θ·12

 

Solve for θ, which will be in radians.  To convert to degrees, multiply by 180/pi.
